On May’s last Sunday the “Palio of Legnano” takes place. It’s the commemoration of the Battle of Legnano in which the Communes of the Lombard League finally defeated Barbarossa forces in 1176. The event consists in a historical parade that ends with the annual horse race and the assignment of the Palio to the winning “Contrada”.
